ABOUT US |
When the Club was formed in 1978 the only organised power dinghy races were the Avon Descent and the Blackwood Classic 250.
Although a highly competitive sport, the Club is very much family oriented with several husband/ wife, fathers & sons/daughters and brother/sister teams competing in all events. Social events are also conducted by the Club throughout the year encouraging members, support crews and families to get together, foster the sport ad introduce new members. Junior dinghy racing members, as young as 14 years, may compete in Club events enabling them to gain several years experience before tackling the more arduous river races, which have a minimum age of 17 years.
Power Dinghy Racing Club events are run under strict racing rules with a strong emphasis on safety. All competitors must undergo a written licence examination (open book) and a swim test prior to racing in any event. Additionaly, all craft undergo scrutineering before entering the water to ensure that they meet the strict safety requirements and racing specifications. |
