Sunnyside Sprint

The Sunnyside Sprint is a 79 kilometer, three stage dash on the Blackwood River, conducted in one day. Racers start from Winnejup Bridge and power upriver to a Turnaround and Re-start at Upper Blackwood (Jayes).

The second leg of the course is back downriver to Winnejup Bridge and then a portage to a Re-Start at the base of Winnejup Falls. The third leg is a run into Bridgetown.

The Sunnyside Sprint is conducted under the Competition Rules of the Power Dinghy Racing Club (Inc).

The Sunnyside Sprint is Round 7 of the Power Dinghy State Championships and carries 100 Championships points (1st Place) and 250 Competition Licence points (all finishers). It is a qualifying event for the Avon Descent and Blackwood Classic 250.

Description of the Course

The following information and descriptive course information in the Supplementary Regulations is intended as a guide only for competitors, support crew and spectators. As the conditions are often dependent on water levels, the Organisers accept no responsibility for the correlation of the descriptions and the actual conditions encountered.

The section of the river used for the Sunnyside Sprint is between Upper Blackwood Bridge and Bridgetown (excluding Winnejup Falls). The river falls considerably in this section.

The majority of the course to Winnejup is good, clean, open water with few obstacles. After the portage at Winnejup Falls some obstacles may appear. There is a substantial rapid at The Basin, upriver from Bridgetown.
